Factors Related to Gambling Behavior Among College Students

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study aimed at investigating the influencing factors on gambling behavior among the university students and providing the fundamental data which would help to prevent their gambling behavior in advance.

Method: The research was performed by 209 4-year university students in Daegu city and Kyungbuk area and data were collected from August 25 to September 20, 2014.

Result: The results showed that the main factors influencing the students¡¯ gambling behavior would be family strengths and anxiety. Specifically, generally the family strengths of students were more or less low and correlated with the increasing degree of anxiety. The students¡¯ gambling behavior was highly correlated with family strengths and anxiety. The lower the family strengths were, the higher the gambling intensity was.

Conclusion: They found a strong correlation among anxiety, family strengths and gambling behavior scores. When the level of anxiety was high and the level of family strength low, the tendency of gambling behavior showed high; the anxiety and family strengths were turning out to be 48% explanation power of gambling behavior among college students.
